ANIMAL JUSTICE

More than 115 million animals are experimented on in laboratories worldwide.

  • The United States is the country with the most animal testing.

  • Animals – mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds – are used for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing.

Animal exploitation is not only about cruelty; it’s tied to global systems of profit, industrialisation, and exploitation of the vulnerable.

An estimated 2.7 million of animals enter UK animal shelters each year. In the US about 7.8 million animals end up in shelters.

  • Every year, approximately 2-3 million dogs and cats are killed in the UK and USA because shelters are full and there aren’t enough adoptive homes.

  • In many countries such as Romania, the public shelters are poorly managed – dogs either die of diseases or they are left to starve.

  • The situation for dogs is believed to be worse in other countries around the world.

Did you know that…

Factory farming is the main cause of animal suffering and abuse.

Every day, more the 200 billion land animals are killed for food worldwide. These animals are kept in extreme small and soiled enclosures, denied proper veterinary care and transported to slaughterhouses for days without any water or food.

Every year, about 200 million animals are used for scientific purposes.

Together, we can stop the unnecessary animal suffering, abuse and killings.

At PHJ, we see animal justice as part of the same struggle for equity, compassion, and systemic change.

There are many ways to take action. From the choices we make at mealtimes to how we support rescues and shelters, every step brings us closer to a more compassionate world.

Go vegan

Veganism is more than a diet. By adopting a vegan lifestyle you refrain from harming and exploiting animals by removing animal products from your diet and using products that have not been tested on animals nor contain any animal parts.

Adopt don’t shop

Never buy an animal from a breeder or a shop. Always adopt from shelters or rescues. There are thousands of animals, of all ages and sizes, needing a loving home and family.

Volunteer at a shelter/sanctuary

Shelters and sanctuaries depend on donations and volunteers to care for their animals and keep them fed and clean. Both you and the animals will benefit from you volunteering – it is very rewarding.

Donate to a shelter/sanctuary

Do NOT donate to organisations like RSPCA and kennels like Battersea which are kill-shelters while there are many shelters and sanctuaries that are relentlessly working to rescue and care for all animals.

Support Animal Rescues

Below are animal rescues and kennels I’ve personally visited or whose founders I personally know and trust.

  • Hulda (Hope, Love and Dedication for Animals) Animal Protection Association in Rosiori Roman

  • BARK (Babworth Animal Rescue Kennels) is a non- profit organisation funded entirely by donations and adoption fees.

  • A sanctuary to cows and their friends for over 30 years

  • a farmed animal sanctuary located on in rural Kent, UK, established in 1994

  • Vegan organic farmed animal sanctuary in Ireland.
